I am willing to admit, that neglecting blogging is something that a lot of bloggers have admitted to doing, including myself from time to time. However, what I find interesting is the thought of not having blogged as much as I’m supposed to is what strikes me as odd.
As someone who lives on the internet, you would think that it would prompt me to blog more. Does that mean blogging is becoming just a fad now? Everyone is on so many different networks(I’m looking at you Twitter), that the joy of blogging on your own site seems irrelevant. Case in point, you want to tell your internet friends/followers that you just found a new video on YouTube. What are you more than likely to do:
a) Blog about it
or
b) Post it on Twitter, Facebook, myspace, friendfeed, etc.
I know the easiest way is (b). Again, why is that? Is it because it’s short and sweet? I don’t think so, because it’s just as easy to setup a plugin on your blog or just make a quick post on your site to post your video.
Okay, so it can’t be of ease of use, so how about audience. Well now this can be tricky, obviously you would say, “I have a larger audience on Twitter, so why would I post it to my blog?” But think about it this way, if you spent half the timeĀ getting followers on Twitter on time promoting your blog; you would have roughly about the same amount of followers to your blog. So that theory is out the window.
So what’s next? Quite frankly, I don’t know. It could be like I said before that blogging is becoming a passing fad, but if it was, then there wouldn’t be so many blogs and bloggers still out there.
Now granted, I’m not saying I’m an expert in any of this, I’m just showcasing my opinions and asking some questions here.
I would like to know your thoughts on this. Is blogging fading into the background, or being replaced by social networks? Or is there something I’m missing?
